The designer Bible - Part 18. - Coco Chanel

The luxury fashion house established in 1909 wears the name of its founder, couturiére Coco Chanel (born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel). The brand stands for elegance, effortless and timeless style, winning over the hearts of women for over a century.

The "little black dress", the Chanel suit, and the perfume No 5 are just as iconic as the brand itself.

Coco Chanel's idea of inspiring clothing meant designing for strong, independent women - the colors (gray and navy blue) were almost revolutionary at her time, since they were only used for men's clothing back then.

The Chanel headquarters are still in Paris, the brand employs over 1200 workers, and produced 1.4 million net income in 2014. The most important names to remember, other than the founder herself, are co-owners Alain Wertheimer and Gerard Wertheimer, Maureen Chiquet CEO, John Galantic, president (United States) and COO, master perfumer Jacques Polge, and current creative director, Karl Lagerfeld.
