The Designer Bible - Part 86. - Salvatore Ferragamo
Salvatore Ferragamo was an Italian shoe designer, who worked with many Hollywood stars in the 1920s. He spent thirteen years in the USA, but returned to Italy in 1927.
In the 50s he designed shoes for the wealthiest and most powerful women of the century, from Eva Peron to Marilyn Monroe. His most famous inventions are the cork wedge and cage heels. Salvatore's eldest daughter, Fiamma inherited her father's talent and came up with the Vara pumps
in 1978.
In 1995 a museum dedicated to Ferragamo's life and work opened
in the Palazzo Spini Feroni. Ferragamo became an international company,
designing not only luxury shoes, but bags, eyewear, silk accessories, watches, perfumes and a ready-to-wear clothing line.
